Discovery versus durable relationships
Exposure only becomes useful when someone chooses a continuing relationship. Follower counts and playlist adds are not permissioned contact, and they are not ticket or merch demand. Artists and teams need audience research, consent, useful communication, and a way to see retention and conversion without treating every viewer as a customer.
Affected roles
Implications
- Platform audiences usually sit with the platform unless a permissioned path exists.
- Useful messages beat undifferentiated mass posting.
- Retention is a different skill from launch-week spikes.
Practical actions
- Write five permissioned questions for a real audience you already have access to.
- Define one continuing relationship you want (mailing list, membership, local show) and its consent basis.
- Measure one retention or conversion number with its denominator stated.
