Industry briefings
Editorial analyses and learning priorities, not numerical forecasts. Each card states evidence status and a review date.
- Growth versus personal sustainabilityanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Industry receipts, business profit and personal income measure different things. IFPI reports 2025 global recorded-music revenue of US$31.7 billion, up 6.4%, with streaming 69.6% of that recorded-music market, while physical grew 8.0% and vinyl 13.7%. Those are recorded-music figures, not total music-industry turnover and not what any one artist or worker takes home. Teach digital operations and physical-product economics without promising that aggregate growth produces a job or a profitable release.
- Discovery versus durable relationshipsanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Exposure only becomes useful when someone chooses a continuing relationship. Follower counts and playlist adds are not permissioned contact, and they are not ticket or merch demand. Artists and teams need audience research, consent, useful communication, and a way to see retention and conversion without treating every viewer as a customer.
- AI-assisted creative workanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-10-16
Separate assistance, generated output, training, voice imitation and authorized reuse. The U.S. Copyright Office’s January 2025 position centers copyrightability on sufficient human expressive contribution: prompts alone are insufficient, while AI assistance does not automatically exclude a human-authored work. That is a U.S. copyrightability statement, not a worldwide answer to training permission, likeness, contracts or infringement.
- Credits as operating infrastructureanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Missing or inconsistent contributor information makes delivery, payment and dispute handling harder. DDEX RIN is one structured way to communicate studio-session entities and contributors. Atlas does not implement RIN solely because this briefing explains it. Capture credits during the work rather than reconstructing them at release. Identifiers and completeness scores do not prove ownership.
- Rights across territories and usesfact · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-10-16
Composition, recording, performance and personal likeness are distinct. The MLC administers specified U.S. digital mechanical flows and allows self-administered writers to join as individuals. IMRO addresses music creators’ rights in Ireland. SoundExchange’s U.S. statutory digital performance activity concerns sound recordings. Teach a rights-and-territory map rather than one universal royalty-registration button.
- Physical products and fan valueanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Product demand can coexist with streaming growth. IFPI reported physical and vinyl growth inside the 2025 recorded-music market, which is not a forecast for any one SKU. Inventory ties up cash. Sampling, costing, preorder validation, fulfillment and returns belong in the plan before a large print run.
- Live-show resilienceanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Revenue, safe delivery and a positive audience experience must be planned together. Attendance data can inform planning; it does not replace competent oversight. Local qualifications and event-specific authority govern safety-critical work. HSE crowd guidance is a UK reference, not a worldwide standard, and Atlas does not teach operational tactics.
- Cross-format productionanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
One project can need live, streaming, portrait, landscape, game and archive deliverables, each with permissions and quality checks. Cheaper production does not eliminate the need for expertise. Partners may change risk and reach. Catalog can be repurposed only within licensed scope.
- Brand partnershipsanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Audience fit and verifiable delivery matter more than a logo placement. Sponsorship, endorsement and deeper partnerships differ. Values, deliverables, exclusivity, usage permissions and honest reporting belong in the brief. Historical sponsorship percentages stay historical unless a dated primary source updates them.
- Funding as delivery responsibilityanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
An award comes with purposes, restrictions and reporting. Search tools may help discovery but cannot establish eligibility or current availability. The inspected Arts Council Ireland Music Bursary Round 2 page was marked Closed, with a maximum award of €20,000 — a dated example, not an application call. Operating versus capital costs, and seed versus continuing funding, are different questions.
- Portfolio careers and mobilityanalysis · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-12-16
Skills can support multiple roles; this is an option, not a mandate. Experience can transfer among merch, labels, management, clearance and supervision when the transferable skill is demonstrated. Exceptional biographies are not promises. Unpaid labor is not the default professional route. BLS describes variable schedules and part-time work for musicians; wage vintages observed in this audit were not silently reconciled, so Atlas does not publish a single current salary figure.
- Trust and automated transactionsemerging scenario · published 2026-09-16 · review by 2026-10-16
Identity, authority, consent, ownership and settlement require separate evidence. Autonomous licensing markets remain scenarios unless documented. Verified identity does not establish power to license music. Provenance is not clearance. Access controls, verified payment-change instructions, approval limits, disputes and audit trails are the practical work — whether or not an “agent” overlay is enabled.
